Telugu Movies on Amazon Prime that are a must watch

Telugu movies are a pivotal part of South Indian movies. Though many assume that Telugu movies are all about sexist, gravity-defying action heroes, Telugu cinema is actually more than that. Amazon Prime has a set of Telugu movies that you are going to love for sure. So, here’s a list of those Telugu movies on Amazon Prime

1.Jathi Ratnalu (2021)

Jathiratnalu telugu movie

If you are in for a laughter riot, then Jathi Ratnalu would be the best choice. The film stars Naveen Polishetty, Priyadarshi, Rahul Ramakrishna, and Faria Abdullah in pivotal roles. The comic timing is brilliant and the delivery of dialogues is on point. You can watch Jathi Ratnalu for two hours with non-stop laughter. I really loved Naveen Polishetty in the film. There is so much potential in this guy that I can’t get enough of him. Few guest appearances also add to the charm of the film. The film is produced by Nag Ashwin under the banner of Swapna Cinemas. Jathi Ratnalu is one of the funniest Telugu movies on Amazon Prime

2. Dear Comrade (2019)

Dear Comrade is a sweet romantic drama that qualifies as a Telugu entertainer but does not carry along with it the baggage of over machoism or overexposure of female sensuality. The drama is right on point. Vijay Devarakonda and Rashmika Mandanna play the lead roles. Their chemistry is endearing. How the lead characters, Bobby and Lilly always look out for each other is truly melting. Dear Comrade has the exact amount of emotional content to make us fall in love with the movie. The songs of the film are another highlight. Dear Comrade is one of the best Telugu movies on Amazon Prime.

3. Agent Sai Srinivasa Atreya (2020)

Naveen Polishetty’s debut Telugu film is a winner. Apart from being funny, it is also a thrilling investigation drama that leaves us surprised. Naveen plays a private detective, Agent Sai Srinivasa Atreya who finds himself in trouble after getting involved in a high-profile case. As he pulls himself out of it, some ugly secrets are revealed. I feel like you can trust Naveen Polishetty’s selection of movies, because I know I do.

4. Nani’s Gang Leader (2019)

nani's gangleader

Let me be honest here, Nani is my favorite Telugu actor. I feel like he has what a real actor needs and what many Telugu actors lack in general. Maybe that’s why people affectionately call him ‘Natural Star Nani’. Coming to Nani’s Gang Leader, the film though not highly successful at the box office is a sweet and funny thriller drama. A lack of proper execution of the film does make it a little boring at certain points. But the story is fresh, exciting, and definitely worth your time.

5. Mahanati (2018)

Mahanti

Mahanati is the film that fetched actress Keerthy Suresh the coveted National Award for Best Actress. She portrayed the eventful life of yesteryear popular actress Savitri who rose to stardom at a very young age but later lost everything and died in a coma. She lived a life that could be summarized as a ‘prince-to-pauper’ life. Savitri was a very philanthropical person and yet she faced a situation that no one ever expected for her. What occurred in her glamorous life that fate took the downside is what Mahanati explores. Keerthy brings life to the character. She ensures that the performance does not turn out to be mere mimicry or imitation but a genuine reflection of Savitri’s personality.

6. Bhaagmathie (2018)

bhaagmathie

Anushka Shetty’s comeback after the blockbuster movie Baahubali is not at all disappointing. She carries the entire film on her shoulder quite effortlessly. Bhaagmathie is a horror crime thriller film that manages to keep us engaged throughout. The film has Anushka playing an IAS servant who serves as the PA to a minister played by Malayalam actor Jayaram. Certain incidents turn her life upside down and she ends up in prison. Now is when the mystery unravels and we are left quite shocked. The film was also remade in Hindi as Durgamathi with Bhumi Pednekar as the lead.

7. Fidaa (2017)

Fidaa is a unique and loveable film for several reasons. It is the first romantic drama set on the backdrop of Telangana and uses the local dialects which is rare in Telugu cinema. The movie introduced the Telugu audience to Sai Pallavi, who gained popularity through the Malayalam movie Premam. She can be seen speaking the local Telangana accent perfectly (kudos to the effort she has put in). The film, also shot in America, is loved so much because of the cultural relatability it projects. I could watch the entire movie all over again just for Sai Pallavi!
