1.Jab We Met (2007)
Watch on: Amazon Prime, Netflix
When you know the director is Imtiaz Ali, there’s no qualm about how good the movie is. Imtiaz Ali has his own style when it comes to romantic movies. Jab We Met, his second directorial, is a masterpiece. It taught us to love, laugh, and live. Kareena Kapoor plays Geet, a feisty and exuberant Punjabi girl who elopes to be with her boyfriend. On the train, she bumps into Aditya, who just went through a really bad breakup. Though initially annoyed by Geet’s outgoing persona, Aditya gets inspired by the positivity and optimism that she spreads on the people she meets.
2.Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na (2008)
Watch on: Netflix
A typical college rom-com, Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na ages like fine wine. The movie revolves around two best friends who help each other in finding a partner. It is only later that they realize their love for each other. With A R Rahman’s splendid music and amazing chemistry between the lead actors, Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na is one of the best Bollywood romantic movies ever made.
Watch on: Disney+Hotstar
Nestled in the backdrop of Banaras, Masaan tells an intense and poetic romantic tale. Unlike other mainstream Bollywood movies, Masaan is raw and deep. It takes us a little while to come back to reality. Vicky Kaushal starred in the movie much before he rose to stardom. No matter how many movies he does in the future, Masaan is going to be one of the best films in his career and one of the best romantic movies you will ever see.
4. Band Baaja Baarat (2010)
Watch on: Amazon Prime
Band Baaja Baarat, which marked the debut of Ranvir Singh, is a fun and entertaining Bollywood romantic comedy-drama. Bittu and Sruthi team up to start a wedding planning company. While things were good on the professional front, Sruthi catches feelings for Bittu which leaves him confused as he does not want to mess their professional bond. Things however mess up and they go separate ways only to come back later. Good songs, an interesting theme, and sizzling chemistry make it a must-watch Bollywood romantic movie.
5. 2 states (2015)
Watch on: Disney+Hotstar
Based on Chetan Bhagat’s semi-autobiographical story, 2 States is the story of two people madly in love who find themselves on difficult roads. Belonging to two different states, they have a hard time convincing their parents for the wedding. The cultural conflict of Punjab and Tamil Nadu is humorously represented in the movie.
6. Love Aaj Kal (2009)

Another romantic gem by Imtiaz Ali, Love Aaj Kal stars Deepika Padukone and Saif Ali Khan in lead roles. Two love stories from two different time frames run parallelly to give us a very meaningful Bollywood romantic comedy. But love can stand the test of time and Meera and Jai, after going through several phases, understand the love they have for each other.
