Every movie adapted from Chetan Bhagat Books
IITian and IIM graduate Chetan Bhagat has a wonderful record of books to his credit. This popular author left his high-paying corporate job to follow his passion of becoming a full-time writer. Chetan Bhagat has played a huge role in influencing the young generation through his books and stories. Nearly all of us would have read his books at least once in our lives. Several of these books were adapted into movies. Here’s a look at all such movies that were inspired by stories written by Chetan Bhagat.
1.Kai Po Che (2013)
Adapted from The Three Mistakes of My Life
Based on Chetan Bhagat’s well-received novel ‘The 3 Mistakes of My Life’, Kai Po Che is a Bollywood film that is sure to leave you with a mix of emotions. For me, this is the best adaptation of Chetan’s novel so far. The film also marked the debut of three incredible actors –Rajkumar Rao, Sushant Singh Rajput, and Amit Sadh. While the former two went on to flourish in the industry, Amit for some reason could not make it as big as his co-stars. Today, watching the film is indeed a soul-stirring task, especially when you realize that Sushant, who played Ishaan, is no longer with us.
2.Hello (2008)
Adapted from One Night @ The Call Center
Though One Night @ The Call Center was the second best-selling novel of Chetan Bhagat, the movie adaptation of the novel was a commercial disaster. The film failed to bring the magic of the written piece to the screen. The film stars Sharman Joshi, Sohail Khan, Gul Panag, Amrita Arora who play employees of a call center based out of Delhi. Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif appear in cameo roles.
3. Half Girlfriend (2017)
Adapted from Half Girlfriend
The story may not have been the best of the famous author but yet it is a fun read. It’s the story of Madhav, a young boy from Bihar who does not have a good command of the English language. He falls for a girl Riya who does not reciprocate his love the way he expected. Coming to the movie, the story was adapted just like that without any changes. However, the film is a disappointment for several reasons. Arjun Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor play the lead roles but they do not share the required chemistry. The overall making of the film feels very unattractive and thus reduces the overall charm of the movie. The songs are really good though.
4. 3 Idiots (2009)
Adapted from Five Pont Someone
The makers of 3 Idiots were called out by Chetan Bhagat for using his story without his consent. The issue was resolved when the makers gave the author his credit for the story. 3 Idiots is however a rough adaptation of the best-selling novel Five Point Someone. 3 Idiots is set in a fictional engineering college while Five Point Someone is set in IIT. The characters have also modified descriptions in 3 Idiots. I don’t know about you but I found the movie much more exciting than the novel. Just like the book, 3 Idiots also went on to become a massive commercial success.
5. 2 States (2014)
Adapted from 2 States-The Story of My Marriage
2 States is a partial biography of Chetan Bhagat that briefs up on how he met his wife and the troubles they had to go through in order to get married. Since Chetan is a Punjabi and his wife is from Tamil Nadu, their families were against their love. This is India and here marriage is about families, isn’t it? The movie is an interesting watch but however has not included all the elements of the book. Alia Bhatt and Arjun Kapoor share sparkling chemistry and the overall making of the film was also fulfilling. The film turned out to be a huge success.
