6 Shelved Bollywood Movies That Could Have Redefined the Industry

It takes months, sometimes years to complete a film. So much labor goes behind making it. But sometimes this labor goes down the drain and the people involved are not able to savor the success of their hard work. Due to many reasons, films get shelved and over the years we have had several movies that never saw the limelight due to one or more such reasons. Here is a list of Bollywood movies that got shelved:

1.Time Machine

Inspired by the Hollywood film Back to the Future, Time Machine was almost shot to completion before it got shelved. Financial restrictions and the departure of the director Shekhar Kapur sealed the fate of Time Machine. The film had an elaborate cast that included Amir Khan, Rekha, Naseeruddin Shah, and Raveena Tandon.

2.Munnabhai Chale Amrika

With two successful films already to its credit, the audience was really excited for the third installment of the Munnabhai franchise. The makers released an announcement trailer for this third edition where the lead characters, Munnabhai and Circuit, travel all the way to America. However, due to certain other project commitments, the film never happened. It would have been really fun to see the shenanigans of the much-loved duo in another country. Director Rajkumar Hirani did drop a hint that the idea of the film will materialize in the near future, so fingers crossed!

3. Shoebite

Shoebite starring Amitabh Bachchan is about a 60-something-year-old man’s journey of self-discovery. Directed by Shoojit Sircar, the film has been completed long back but never got its theatrical release. The long impending legal battle between the producer and the actor led to the film getting shelved and after all these years, the situation has not improved. And hence the fate of the film remains a mystery.

4. Inshallah

With Inshallah getting shelved, we lost a big Eid release. Starring Salman Khan and Alia Bhatt, Inshallah directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali never went on the floor due to a certain showdown between Khan and Bhansali. That’s when Sanjay Leela Bhansali began his work on Gangubai Kathiawadi along with Alia Bhatt and it went on to become a huge hit with Alia Bhatt getting praises for her exemplary performance. I must say, the pairing of Salman Khan and Alia Bhatt sure is refreshing and with the film nowhere close to getting started, we will miss the pairing.

5. Khabardar

With an ensemble cast including Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Hassan, Sridevi, and Jayaprada, Khabardar is a film that got shelved halfway through its making. The director revealed much later that Amitabh Bachchan got insecure about Kamal Hassan and worried that Hassan might shadow his performance. And that’s why Bachchan walked out of the film. Ego clashes between the makers and actors seem to be one of the major reasons for a film to get shut down. I feel that with Khabardar getting shelved, we have lost a film that had the potential to become a cult classic.

6. Allwyn Kalicharan

Anurag Kashyap’s ambitious project Allwyn Kalicharan had made it to the floors but unfortunately, the lead actor Anil Kapoor developed cold feet on day one. The reasons are not clear but Anurag Kashyap did mention during an interview that Anil Kapoor got insecure about another actor’s role in the film and ditched Allwyn Kalicharan without giving a proper answer to Kashyap. This eventually led to a bitter rivalry between them but things are all good now between the AKs. Anurag even produced Anil Kapoor’s son’s film Bhavesh Joshi Super Hero. They were also seen together in the film Ak vs Ak on Netflix.
