10 Akshay Kumar Movies That Have My Whole Heart!
If I had to make a list of my favorite actors, Akshay Kumar would probably find his name at the end of that list. Yes, I have never been a fan of his acting skills but I have to admit there are a few films by Akshay Kumar that have left me in splits (thanks to his amazing comedy skills) and sometimes even left me thinking.
Regardless of what I feel about Akshay Kumar, it goes without saying that he has had a successful acting career so far with some notable films to his credit. I have cherry-picked 10 films from his decades-long career that have my whole heart. These are films that have not only earned iconic statuses but also left an indelible imprint in the viewers’ minds. Let’s go then!
1. Special 26 (2013)
Akshay Kumar’s portrayal of the suave yet cunning mastermind in Neeraj Pandey’s ‘Special 26’ stands as a testament to his acting finesse. The film, based on real-life heists, showcases a level of intrigue and intelligence that keeps you at the edge of your seat. Akshay Kumar’s performance blends seamlessly with the film’s engaging narrative, making this a must-watch for thriller enthusiasts.
2. OMG – Oh My God! (2012)
In ‘OMG – Oh My God!’, Akshay Kumar takes on quite an interesting role- that of Lord Krishna himself! This satirical take on religion, faith, and the absurdities of superstition is a thought-provoking masterpiece. It is one of those rare films where his stardom doesn’t take over the entire narrative and blends well with his co-star Paresh Rawal’s performance as Kanthi Lal Mehta. Filled with comedy, wit, and strong messaging, OMG was an instant winner for me.
3. Jolly LLB 2 (2017)
Akshay Kumar’s ‘Jolly LLB 2’ is one of the finest courtroom dramas that raises some serious questions that challenge our judicial system. Playing a small-town lawyer fighting for justice, Akshay Kumar immerses himself into the character with finesse. His charisma and emotional depth resonate with the audience, making this film a standout in his filmography. Jolly LLB 2 is one of my favorite Akshay Kumar movies so far.
4. Housefull (2010)
I bet there would be no objection when I say that Akshay Kumar does comedy better than anyone in Bollywood. One such comedy movie of Akshay Kumar is from the ‘Housefull’ franchise and has been a significant part of his comedic journey, and the first installment is a laugh riot. While the film may not be everyone’s cup of tea, Kumar’s impeccable comic timing shines through, and it’s a perfect option for those in need of some lighthearted, no-brainer entertainment.

5. De Dana Dan (2009)
In ‘De Dana Dan,’ Akshay Kumar joins forces with Priyadarshan for a slapstick comedy that will leave you in splits. The film’s chaotic plot, along with Kumar’s energetic performance, makes it an enjoyable and hilarious watch. It may not be high art, but it is a delightful addition to the actor’s repertoire.
6. Pad Man (2018)
Pad Man features Akshay Kumar as the real-life superhero Arunachalam Muruganantham, who revolutionized menstrual hygiene in rural India. Keeping the “guy saves women” tonality of the film apart, Akshay Kumar offers a sincere effort in bringing to screen the legend of Arunachalam. The film is a heartwarming tale of determination and social change, and Akshay Kumar’s portrayal is sensitive, sincere, and powerful.
7. Welcome (2007)
‘Welcome’ is a classic Bollywood comedy where Akshay Kumar plays a lovable goon. His on-screen chemistry with the ensemble cast, especially Nana Patekar, is simply mesmerizing. The film’s comic sequences, coupled with Kumar’s charismatic presence, make it a hilarious and memorable watch, making it another classic comedy movie by Akshay Kumar.
8. Hera Pheri (1999)
No list of Akshay Kumar’s best films would be complete without a nod to ‘Hera Pheri.’ This iconic comedy directed by Priyadarshan is a timeless classic that has etched itself into the annals of Bollywood history. Alongside Paresh Rawal and Suniel Shetty, Akshay Kumar completes the dynamic trio and delivers comedic brilliance.
The film’s unforgettable one-liners, hilarious situations, and memorable characters make ‘Hera Pheri’ a beloved favorite among cinephiles. Akshay Kumar’s impeccable comic timing and effortless portrayal of Raju, the lovable and street-smart character, contributed significantly to the film’s status as a cult classic.
9. Brothers (2015)
While this film might come as a surprise, Brothers is an underrated Bollywood film that explores complex emotional depths between families. Though not perfect, Akshay Kumar is in his best form in Brothers. He adds subtlety to his character David Fernandez indicating to us how childhood pain has shaped the man he is today. Along with Siddharth Malhotra, who plays his estranged brother in this film, Akshay gives us a mature and delicate performance in Brothers.
10. OMG 2 (2023)
The sequel to his successful film OMG, OMG 2 has Akshay in an extended cameo appearance and joins in Pankaj Tripathi and Yami Gautham to give a film that discusses a very serious subject- Sex Education.
If Akshay Kumar was Lord Krishna in the first part, here he resembles Lord Shiva, and like last time, he does a great job with his character.
In a career brimming with over 150 films, Akshay Kumar has done films that will forever be remembered. Several memes of him floating the social media are a proof for the same. I have my reservations about his recent selections of films but I have no doubt on the entertaining performer he is. Here’s hoping he does more films like the ones mentioned in this list.
