Remakes and biopics seem to be the only route ahead for Bollywood lately. In the umpteen number of biopics released in Bollywood, there are selected few that cannot be missed at any cost. Here’s a list of those Bollywood biopics that deserve all your attention.

1. Sardar Udham

Sardar Udham is the recent addition to the list of Bollywood biographical dramas. Sardar Udham Singh is an unsung freedom fighter who waited for twenty years to avenge the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. Directed by Shoojit Sircar, Sardar Udham does total justice to the intentions of Sardar Udham Singh. The movie is well shot and intense in its narrative.

2. Shershaah

Shershaah tells the inspiring story of Kargil War martyr Captain Vikram Batra. Ambitious, passionate, and full of energy, Vikram Batra had played a significant role in India’s victory during the 1999 Kargil War. To make a war film without turning it into a heart-thumping jingoistic narrative is imperative in conveying the right emotions, which Shershaah gracefully does. The incomplete romance between Dimple Cheema and Vikram won the hearts of the audience. Shershaah turned out to be a career revival for Sidharth Malhotra who was having a dry spell at the theatres for a while.

Harshad Mehta was a stockbroker in Mumbai who was arrested for money laundering and stock market fraud. Coming from a humble background, Harshad Mehta made a great reputation for himself in the market using some loopholes but fell on his knees when journalist Sucheta Dalal from Times of India exposed his illegal methods. Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story simplifies the financial jargon making it easy for a common person to relate and understand the events. The series does not show Harshad in a bad light, rather focuses on his life and the way he dealt with things.

4. Dangal

Dangal draws inspiration from the life of the wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat who encourages his daughters to become world-class wrestlers. The story of a father dreaming big for his daughters in a male-dominated industry is indeed inspiring. Amir Khan oscillates swiftly through the age transition. The movie marked the debut of Sanya Malhotra and Fatima Sana Shaikh.

5. Mary Kom

The movie Mary Kom starring Priyanka Chopra tells her tale in an inspiring way.

Professor Ramchandra Siras, a college professor at Aligarh University was thrown out due to his homosexuality. The movie Aligarh reflects on his fight for individuality and respect as a homosexual person. Manoj Bajpayee essays the role of Professor Ramchandra Siras brilliantly.

7. Neerja

What do you do when death is right there, facing you? Neerja Bhanot faced death, bravely. ‘Zindagi badi honi chahiye, lambi nahi’, Neerja says in the movie. The dialogue literally sums up her entire life. In 1986, Pan Am Flight 73 flight was hijacked in Karachi. Neerja Bhanot was the flight’s head purser that day. It is her audacious actions that helped rescue the lives of hundreds of passengers present in that flight. While she was trying to rescue some children, she was shot dead. And the young age of 23, Neerja became a symbol of bravery and courage.
