Varun Dhawan forayed into cinema in 2010 starting as an assistant director in Karan Johar’s film My Name Khan. It was the movie Student of the Year that marked his debut as an actor. There has been no turning back for Varun since then. He went on to earn an enormous fan base and has received plenty of love from the audience. Varun has faced several criticisms in his career till date which alleged him of nepotism and also criticized his choice of films. While most of Varun Dhawan’s movies have been based on a typical format there have also been some exceptional movies that explored his creative side.  Here’s the complete list of Varun Dhawan movies released so far.

1.Student of the Year (2012)

Directed and produced by Karan Johar, Student of the Year marked the debut of three young actors – Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, and Siddharth Malhotra. The movie had all the pomp and glamour of a Dharma Production movie with some memorable dance numbers, fashionable set, and much more. The film explores the love triangle between three school-going friends. If you keep aside the logical aspect, the film is an entertaining watch.

2. Main Tera Hero (2014)

Directed by Varun Dhawan’s father David Dhawan, Main Tera Hero is a typical farce comedy movie like earlier movies of David Dhawan. There’s nothing much interesting about the movie apart from the peppy songs. The film also stars Nargis Fakhri and Ileana D’cruz.

3. Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania (2014)

Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania had Varun Dhawan reunited together with his Student of the Year co-star Alia Bhatt. Their chemistry has always been pleasant and interesting to watch. Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania is a romantic comedy movie that serves as a perfect one-time watch.

4. Badlapur (2015)

Badlapur turned out to be a game-changer for Varun Dhawan. From being seen in very predictable and unchallenging roles, Badlapur was a complete switch. With Badlpur, Varun Dhawan brought his raw, ugly side which we never knew existed. He left us all in awe. Badlapur is not a film for the feeble-hearted. The scenes are pretty intense and heart-wrenching. The film explores a common man’s vengeance over the death of his wife and son. Badlapur also stars Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Yami Gautham, and Huma Qureshi.

5. ABCD 2 (2015)

We had gotten a glimpse of the dancer in Varun Dhawan from his earlier movies. But it was through Remo Dsouza’s ABCD that we saw his dancing prowess. The film was based on the true story of ‘Fictitious Dance Academy’ from Nalasopara who went all the way to Las Vegas to participate in a dance competition. The film also stars Shraddha Kapoor and Prabhudeva.

6. Dilwale (2016)

Rohit Shetty’s Dilwale is a tribute to the cult classic movie Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge(DDLJ). Dilwale reunited the iconic and endearing couple Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol, who also paired in DDLJ. Varun Dhawan plays Shah Rukh’s younger brother in this film. The film is funny to a certain extent but could have been better in several ways.

7. Dishoom (2016)

Dishoom is directed by Varun’s elder brother Rohit Dhawan. The film also stars John Abraham and Jacqueline Fernandez. It was an average hit at the box office.

8. Badrinath Ki Dulhania (2017)

Though Badrinath Ki Dulhania may sound like a sequel to Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania, it actually isn’t. The film again reunites much loved on-screen couple Varun and Alia. Badrinath Ki Dulhania is an entertaining watch.

9. Judwaa 2 (2017)

Judwaa 2 is the remake of the hit 90s movie with the same name. The film turned out to be a disaster.

10. October (2018)

October is that film where Varun left us all speechless and awestruck. He was brilliant in this Shoojith Sircar drama.

11. Sui Dhaaga (2018)

The idea that Sui Dhaaga puts ahead is really commendable but somewhere the cast of the film feels a little disconnected from the story setting. Nonetheless, you may definitely enjoy watching Sui Dhaaga.

12. Kalank (2019)

Kalank is a multi-starrer film set in the backdrop of the pre-independence era. The film, however, didn’t rise up to its pre-release hype.

13. Street Dancer 3D (2020)

Street Dancer 3D brings back the cast of ABCD 2 but with some additional members. If you enjoy watching dance then you will definitely enjoy this one.

14. Coolie No.1 (2021)

Due to the pandemic, Coolie No. 1 was released on Amazon Prime and ended up receiving negative reviews.
