10 Best Web Series on Amazon Prime India
With the pandemic coming no close to an end, OTT platforms like Amazon Prime Video are our only savior from boredom. Amazon Prime Video has become India’s mini theatre that people can carry around anywhere and anytime. Here’s a list of some of the best web series on Amazon Prime Video that needs to be on your binge list.
1. Fleabag
This is a show that needs to be on your binge list. Based on Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s one-woman play adaptation of the same name, Fleabag is a two season, twelve-episode series that revolves around the life of a 30-year-old woman. She is a complete mess. There is hardly anything that she has done right in her life. She uses sex as her escape from her complicated emotions. The entire series is about how she transforms into a more mature person, accepting her mistakes and falling in love. Fleabag is undoubtedly the best web series available on Amazon Prime Video.
2. The Family Man
The Family Man is one of the most exciting, thrilling, and entertaining series I have seen in recent times. It’s a complete package.
While his family is convinced that he is a government employee with a hectic schedule, Srikanth is out there on a mission fighting terrorists and ensuring national security. Yes, he is a spy and has a double life! I couldn’t stop myself from binge-watching this super cool series all day long. The second season of The Family Man also meets our expectations.
3. Paatal Lok
Paatal Lok is an investigation thriller. It would not be wrong to say that it is Amazon’s reply to Netflix’s Sacred Games. Paatal Lok is deep, mysterious, and keeps you at the edge of your seat. It is a brutally honest insight into raw realism of India. Backed by some terrific performances, Paatal Lok is just the right one for you if you are in the mood for a crime mystery. Again, it is one of the best Indian web series on Amazon Prime and you just cannot miss it.
4. Four More Shots Please!
This series revolves around the life of four women and how they set out on a journey to own the world in their sexy stilettos. The story is packed with some hot and steamy scenes and objects to the stigmas surrounding female sexual pleasure. Relationships, drama, comedy, and friendship; this is what Four More Shots Please is all about. And come on, it’s not daily that you come across female buddy movies or series.
5. Made in Heaven
People say that matches are made in heaven; but are they really? Made in Heaven is a take into the dark side of big fat Indian weddings. A highly relevant series, Made in Heaven covers so much that needs to be discussed in our society. It’s such a proud moment to see Arjun Mathur, who played Karan, get nominated for the Emmy Award for his spectacular performance.
Made in Heaven took Indian television to global heights. Made in Heaven is not all dark. There are some heartwarming moments while there are moments that make you cry and even think.
6. Bandish Bandits
Bandish Bandits is a unique take on a modern love story. It is about two young aspiring musicians with different musical interests and how they explore life through music. We have the legend Naseeruddin Shah back in action after a break.
If you love music, then this is for you. Music is the strength of the series and combining western and Hindustani music does its magic. In simpler words, Bandish Bandit is an entertaining light-hearted musical drama that you will enjoy. It veers away from the usual crime/thriller genre in OTT platforms.
7. The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel
With over three seasons and counting, Marvelous Mrs. Maisel is a comedy-drama set in 1958, Manhattan. Miriam Midge Maisel is a young Jewish American woman whose husband leaves her for his secretary. In an attempt to pull her life together, she discovers her knack for comedy and sets out to become a stand-up comic.
The hilarious set of events that follow is what the show is all about. If you are in the mood for some light-hearted comedy, this show is all yours to binge on.
8. Breathe
Another intense mystery thriller on Prime, Breathe, starring R Madhavan is the story of a father who is desperate to save his son’s life. It is Amazon Prime’s second Indian original series after Inside Edge. Breathe is not just all about mystery, it is about relationships too. Madhavan’s Danny and Amit Sadh’s Kabir are two desperate people stuck in a cat and mouse game. ‘How far will you go for love?’, simply sums up the entire series.
9. Breathe: Into the Shadows
Though the same name, this sequel is set in entirely different premises. However, the desperation for the loved ones remains the same. Starring Abhishek Bachchan and Nitya Menen, Breath: Into the Shadows is again an intense mystery drama packed with suspense and an intriguing storyline. Abhishek Bachchan does a splendid job in his internet debut.
10. Mirzapur
The only way I can sum this up would be – the web version of an Anurag Kashyap movie! There’s so much of UP-Lucknow dialect, gruesome murder, guns, love; which are all common ingredients of a typical Anurag Kashyap film. I would highly recommend you to watch Mirzapur only if you love those kinds of plots. Otherwise, you are not going to enjoy your binge sessions.
